My biggest passion is discovering books to enhance the growth for the elementary student.
The Giving Tree - Shel Silverstein

Grade level 2.6

The Giving Tree is a Shel Silverstein classic. It is an important lesson about friendship and the merit of being generous and giving, though it has been interpreted in several ways over the years. It could open up discussion in the classroom about the relationship between the boy and the tree, and the lesson of giving so very much.

What Will Float? - Fred Biddulph, Jeanne Biddulph

Grade level 1

What Will Float? is a great introduction to science concepts for kids. It opens the door for students to ask questions and explain things to them through a non-fiction aspect. It also introduces important new vocabulary words.

Madeline (Picture Books) - Ludwig Bemelmans

Grade Level 3.8

Madeline is a great story to introduce young students to scary concepts, like having surgery or going to the hospital, through a fictional tale.

Amazing Grace - Mary Hoffman, Caroline Binch

Amazing Gace Grade level 4.1

This would be a great book to use in a lesson on diversity. This would also be a good read to suggest that anyone can be whatever they choose.
